B1 and B2 are two consecutive levels on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). B1 is intermediate β you can handle everyday conversations and familiar topics. B2 is upper intermediate β you can discuss complex topics with fluency, understand most authentic English and produce detailed, structured writing.
At B1, the CEFR describes a student who can:
Deal with most situations likely to arise when travelling in an English-speaking area.
Produce simple connected text on familiar topics or personal interests.
Enter into conversations on familiar topics β work, school, leisure and personal interest.
At B2, the CEFR describes a student who can:
Understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics.
Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible.
Produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint giving advantages and disadvantages.
Understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument.
